October 16, 2024 – IRT Saint Exupéry's representatives recently visited STMicroelectronics in Catania, Sicily, to advance their work within the Chips JU co-funded project ARCHIMEDES. Marina Labalette, Project Manager, and Valeria Rustichelli, Research Engineer, led the visit, focusing on shared initiatives aimed at bridging the technological gaps between industries.
During their time in Catania, Labalette and Rustichelli met with STMicroelectronics' reliability team, which is working on SiC (Silicon Carbide) and GaN (Gallium Nitride) technologies. They also toured the company’s state-of-the-art laboratory, gaining valuable insights into the ongoing research efforts.
A key highlight of the visit was October 9, which was dedicated to discussions surrounding Supply Chain 4 of the ARCHIMEDES project. This segment of the project involves a collaborative partnership between Safran, STMicroelectronics, and IRT Saint Exupéry, focusing on cross-sector research and development.
In the first phase of the project, the partners conducted an assessment to identify differences in the qualification standards for SiC power modules between the automotive and aeronautics sectors. The findings have laid the groundwork for the second phase, in which the teams are now developing a joint experimental test plan for hybrid propulsion applications.
